Go Kart Engines
Go Kart racing is one of the sports that is enjoyed equally both by younger and elder generations. The key to go kart racing’s success are the go kart engines, a small yet powerful engine. Usually the go karts used in amusement parks employ an electric motor or a 4 stroke engine unlike the karts used for racing, which are mostly powered by a 2 stroke or a 4 stroke engine.
The go kart engines powered by electric motors are usually the ones which require low maintenance and the advantages of using such engines are – since they are electric motors, they are environment friendly, as they do not emit any pollution and they can also be used in indoor race tracks.
4 Stroke Go Kart Engines
The second type of go kart engine is the 4 stroke engine. A 4 stroke engine usually reaches a maximum speed of around 50 miles per hour. These engines are usually in the range of 5 horse powers to 20 horse powers. Honda, Briggs & Stratton, Robin, Kohler are some of the companies that produce such 4 stroke engines useful for go kart racing. 
There are also 4 stroke engines developed by some of the companies like TKM, Yamaha, etc which are in the range of 15 horse power to 48 horse power, and these are especially produced for karting races.
2 Stroke Go Kart Engines
The third and the fastest type of a go kart engine is the 2 stroke engine and these are usually produced by dedicated producing companies or manufacturers. Yamaha, Vortex, Rotax, Titan, Comer are the producers of these 2 stroke engines meant for go karting karts. A 2 stroke engine with a fixed gear (gear shifting not involved is a fixed gear) can touch a maximum speed of around 100 miles per hour. Most of these go kart engines used to get cooled with air previously, these days water is being used to cool them.
The heart of the kart is the engine and once you are aware of the performance of your go kart engine, it gives you an edge while racing. Go Kart racing is an adrenaline rushing sport and can be the first stepping stone towards a fully fledged racing career or can be just enjoyed as a sport just for the sheer thrill involved in it.
